He Will Be There

I am Peggy. This is my story.

Lovely home, happy marriage, three beautiful children, a part-time job – life was so good and yet
I was always looking for things to be better. When the baby’s out of nappies, things will be better….. When the children are all at school, things will be easier…..

I have lived in Rushden most of my life and, although my parents weren’t Christians, as a two-year old I was taken to Sunday School by some  Salvation Army officers who lived nearby. When I was about nine, I attended a meeting where I was challenged to give my life to Jesus. I went forward and promised to follow him. I was involved at the Salvation Army for a few years but, with no encouragement at home, by the time I was thirteen, the usual teenage interests took over…. cinema, dancing, and boys!

Over the next twenty years, although I turned my back on God, He never turned his back on me. I would have called myself a Christian and even prayed in difficult times. Then with a young family, I felt in would be good for the children to go to Sunday School, and so I took them along to the Baptist Church.

There, I found not only Sunday School for the children, but a warm welcome for myself. I really came to know how much Jesus loves me – so much that He suffered and died on a Cross so that
I can be forgiven for the wrong things I do to offend against God. I truly gave my life to Him and was baptised in water as a sign of my new life.

That was over thirty years ago and, as with each of us, during those years life has had its ups and downs – good times, hard times, and sad times. But Jesus never said that life would be a ‘bed of roses’ when we follow Him.  He did say that He would be with us through all circumstances, and He certainly has been with me. In the most difficult of times, I always knew that He was there beside me and would bring me through.

Now, I’m no longer looking for better things. I have the peace and joy in my life that comes from knowing Jesus. Each morning I thank the Lord for the gift of a new day, and I know that whatever life brings, He will be there with me.

I have the love and support of fellow Christians, and know the joy of meeting together as the family of God’s people – His church – to worship our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, ‘And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’
(Matthew 28:20)
